Our Biological Physics group at SMST explores the biophysical principles governing biological and medical systems. Using physics-based modeling, computational fluid dynamics, and data analysis, we study collective cell behaviors and cell and tissue mechanics to drive biomedical innovation. We also leverage artificial intelligence and machine learning to analyze large-scale medical data for improved healthcare solutions.
We investigate how mechanical forces shape cellular and tissue behavior, influencing disease progression, wound healing, cancer invasion, and tissue engineering. By developing physics-based models, we predict tissue morphogenesis, tissue flow, and tumor progression. Additionally, we examine how local microenvironments, such as extracellular matrix properties and mechanical stresses, impact organ development and disease pathology. Through an interdisciplinary approach, our research advances medical science, regenerative medicine, and therapeutic development, contributing to cutting-edge innovations in healthcare.
